It's Almost Book Fair Time!

After not having in-person book fairs last fall, we elementary and middle school librarians have gained permission to hold fairs in our buildings this month around conferences time. Students and adults already in the buildings will be able to browse--and purchase, if they'd like--books and other goodies from our Scholastic fairs.

Middle school students recently received a fair flyer in Literacy Studies class, and you can access an online version HERE.

Students will be able to shop the book fair during Literacy Studies classes, as well as before and after school. We can accept cash or debit/credit cards, and new this year, we are encouraging families to use Scholastic's eWallet accounts. Families can create eWallet accounts from the MS book fair webpage, and students can then shop the fair using electronically deposited funds. Any money remaining in eWallet accounts at the fair's end will not be refunded. Students received eWallet information along with their book fair fliers.

Like our fall fair, this one is also accessible online, where students and families can access thousands of books and other items. With just a $25 book purchase, items will ship free to your home. You can access the online book fair HERE.

Looking for some quick information and details about the book fair? Families received emails from our main office with an attached letter, and you can also access it HERE.
We're very excited to be able to bring an in-person book fair to students this spring! If you have any questions, please reach out to the school main office to be put in touch, or families are welcome to email me; please see the letter above for contact information. Happy reading!

Our Fall Book Fair is Online!

With the state of things as they are, our fall book fair has moved to an entirely virtual format. While we will miss sharing our space with families during our student-lead conferences evenings, a virtual fair does allow us to extend our dates and offer students an extended look at the fair during Literacy Studies classes.

Here's the "need to know" about our virtual fair:
  • WHEN: Mon. Nov. 2 - Sun. Nov. 15
  • WHAT: More than 200 popular and new titles, along with value packs and book fair exclusives. Thousands of titles and reading-related merchandise also available from The Scholastic Store Online.
  • WHY: To support a love of reading and to support our school
In addition to shopping our school's virtual book fair, you also have the opportunity to shop the Scholastic Store Online when you access our book fair website:

Want to explore the fair a little more? You're welcome to check out our Fall Book Fair Choice Board! Just click on the link in the caption to access it.

New Books from Our Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you to our parent volunteer who oversaw the spring Scholastic Book Fair! With her work and the generosity of our families, we were able to purchase several new books for the library, including those featured below.

Are you looking for a graphic novel? These four are now available in the library, including the long-awaited graphic novel for the Wings of Fire series.

Among the new books are new titles in popular series, like Gordon Kormans' Ungifted and its sequel Super Gifted. Book 3 in the Horizon series, A Warp in Time, is also now part of our collection. Not read the other two book in the Horizon series? Check out the trailer below.

Looking for mystery, action, or adventure? Popular authors Lois Ruby and Ally Carter are among the authors whose books were also recently added to the collection. You can read more about Not If I Save You First on author Ally Carter's website.
We're excited to talk with you about our new books--stop by the library soon to check out one of these new books or any of the others in the collection! See you soon!

Featured New Books

With the close of our recent Scholastic Book Fair, you may notice quite a few new titles in the library. Want to try one of them? Here's some information--and book trailers--for some of our new books.

Patina, by Jason Reynolds, is the second book in his Track series that includes the book Ghost. This book follows Patty, one of the teammates on the track team. An African American middle schooler who lives with her aunt and uncle, Patty's life has the life skills to bring her relay team together, to make it in her all-white girls' school, and make the best of her unusual family arrangement.

Legend series author Marie Lu has a new series in the works with Warcross. Main character Emika is a teenage girl who not only plays the international sensation video game, but also hunts down the people who illegally bet on the game. Check out the trailer:

Want to try historical fiction? Dean Hughes' book Four-Four-Two features the 442nd Combat Regiment from World War II--a unit made up entirely of Japanese Americans.

Main character Yuki and his family are forced to live in a Japanese internment camp in Utah, but Yuki chooses to enlist in the army to serve the country that holds him. He and his friend ship out to Europe, where their friendship only grows stronger amid all the prejudices and battles.

Other titles are read-alikes for books you may have already read. Any of these look familiar?
So why not stop by the library soon to look at our book fair purchases and maybe check out something new? Hope to see you soon!
